For the past two years the SVA Beach Commission have been running Junior Beach Volleyball Performance Coaching sessions in order to improve the quality of beach volleyball players coming into the Scottish Beach Volleyball Tour and to provide a pool of good quality players for the future which could represent Scotland in beach volleyball.
Due to decisions made at UK level there is potentially now more opportunity for performance athletes to represent Scotland within Beach Volleyball at Senior level. To facilitate this, the first Senior Beach Volleyball Performance Coaching sessions will be organised this summer, 2013.
The first Senior Men’s session will be on Sunday 16th June 2013.
The coach will be Barry McGuigan, who has numerous Scotland Juniors, Young Seniors and Seniors caps in Volleyball and is current Assistant Coach to the Scottish Senior Men’s squad. He was a member of the GB Beach Volleyball squad for a year, gaining 2 GB caps, during which time he helped coach Shauna Mullin, Robin Miedzybrodzki and Jake Sheaf gaining valuable coaching experience from GB coaches such as Vince Joyce, Mo Glover and Morph Bowes. He won the Scottish Beach Volleyball Tour in 2008 and has always been a title contender at any British beach volleyball event he plays in. He was crowned ‘King of Britain’ in 2008 after winning the Scottish and English King of the Beach tournaments that year. In 2012 he coached a Scottish U23 beach volleyball team in preparation for and during the European Championships in Assen, Holland.
The Beach Commission is inviting players who have already expressed an interest in this session. If you wish to be considered please contact the SVA Office on 01315564633 or email.
