After the recent aligning of National Team Staff appointment cycles, Scottish Volleyball is delighted to announce the new staffing structure. The NT staff group contains a mixture of familiar and new faces to support the performance of our National Teams.
Senior Men
SV High Performance Coach Ally Jack continues in the role of Head Coach for another 2 years. He will be joined by former Scotland setter Kenny Milne as Assistant Coach and Darren Martin on an interim basis whilst he continues his recovery from injury. Kenny will be well known to some as Assistant Coach to the City of Glasgow men in the SVL Premier, whilst Darren continues to develop his coaching skills as Head Coach of the Su Ragazzi women’s team. Dominique Hewitson joins the staff as new Team Manager after picking up experience supporting both the U20 men and women during their trip to Dublin in October.
Senior Women
Danny Traylor continues in the role of Head Coach after a successful first year in post. Former Scotland captain, Fiona Welsh, continues in the role of Assistant Coach and will be joined on the bench with Alison Schulz, Edinburgh University. Gail Wilson’s long association with the Senior women’s team continues as Team Manager.
U20 Men
Ally Jack combines the position of Head Coach of the Senior men with the role of Interim Head Coach of the U20 men’s programme. Ally will rely on the experience of John Scrimgeour for support. John has held various positions throughout our National Team Programmes over the years. Adam Paton, Scottish Volleyball’s Performance Administrator, will provide additional support and enthusiasm by combining the roles of Assistant Coach and Team Manager. The 3 members of staff will look to bring out the best in the team as they prepare for the European Championship Qualifier in Dublin at the end of January 2024.
U20 Women
Fiona Welsh occupies an additional role as the Head Coach of the U20 women’s programme and will look to utilise her strong ties with the senior women to prepare the U20 squad for full international honours. Fiona will be assisted by Dominique Hewitson who will add Assistant Coach and Team Manager of the U20 women to her list of duties.
U18 Men
Ally Jack remains in the role of U18 Head Coach on an interim basis. Andy Sharp continues his work with our age group squads by sharing his experience as Assistant Coach. We also welcome Stuart McCracken, known for his work with Glasgow Mets and Woodfarm HS, to the role of Assistant Coach.
U18 Women
We welcome Shelly Paterson into the role of Head Coach of our U18 women’s programme. Some will know Shelly from her time supporting beach athletes, others for her work with St Andrews University VC.
All our age group coaches will be providing support to the Tartan talent Pathway during the ‘Developing Talent’ phase of the pathway commencing in January.
Best of luck to all new, and not so new faces, Scottish Volleyball looks forward to working with you!
