Scottish Volleyball and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport are excited to today announce a new partnership as Scottish Volleyball’s Official Travel Provider for our Celtic Christmas Challenge, on the 16th and 17th December 2023.
This agreement will see the Scottish Volleyball National Team and opposition National Teams make use of the Glasgow Subway when travelling between accommodations and venues within Glasgow. The partnership embodies Scottish Volleyball’s continued ambition to reduce the environmental impact of national and international events.
Glasgow Subway is the third-oldest underground rail transit system in Europe and will celebrate its 127th birthday whilst Ireland takes on Scotland this 16th and 17th December. The Irish National Teams will make use of the subway when travelling around Glasgow this December as part of the 2023 Celtic Christmas Challenge.
Spectators and volunteers are also being encouraged to make use of the Subway which connects Glasgow City Centre to the Southside and the West End of Glasgow. Spectators can make use of the three Park and Ride locations at Bridge Street, Shields Road, and Kelvinbridge as well as connections to national rail services at Buchanan Street and St Enoch’s. Frequent services will whisk spectators and teams alike to Kelvinbridge and Hillhead for the University of Glasgow in under ten minutes from the City Centre.
Margaret Ann Fleming MBE, CEO of Scottish Volleyball said, “This is a wonderful and exciting initiative and partnership between SPT and Scottish Volleyball. We thank SPT for their generous support of our sport and we look forward to this being the first of many partnership agreements between our two organisations”.
SPT Director of Transport Operations Richard Robinson added, “SPT and the Subway are delighted to team up with Scottish Volleyball as the official travel provider for the Celtic Christmas Challenge 2023. We look forward to welcoming our national team on board as well as the Irish team and all the volleyball fans in Glasgow during the event.
“Subway is the best way to move around the city quickly and easily at any time of year. We wish the very best of luck to both teams!”
Ally Jack, Indoor High-Performance and Coaching Manager, also commented, “It’s great to have SPT sign on as a partner and is a sign of our ongoing commitment to our National Teams and our environment. As Scottish Volleyball continue to push our National Teams to ever-greater levels, the support and benefits of partners such as Strathclyde Partnership for Transport cannot be understated.”
The four Scottish Indoor National Teams will be taking on their four Irish counterparts at the University of Glasgow on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December 2023 with tickets available soon. More information about Glasgow Subway can be found at https://www.spt.co.uk/travel-with-spt/subway/
