Statement and clarification from Scottish Volleyball

Scottish Volleyball has robust recruitment procedures in place and in line with this, references are sought and supplied with any employee appointment.

In relation to the article published by TSN, on Thursday 16th March 2023 it was stated that Scottish Volleyball did not request a reference from the Volleyball Federation of Canada, this is factually incorrect and a reference was supplied by a staff member of the Canadian Volleyball Federation.

Furthermore in line with our policies, an international police record check was also sought from Canada which raised no issues.

In light of recent events, Scottish Volleyball has taken the position to temporarily pause the High-Performance Beach programme for the next 10 days until Friday 31st March 2023. This means there will be no staff involvement in any of the planned coaching sessions during this period. We would urge players to continue to train and we look forward to being able to give you a more detailed update in the coming days/weeks.

We will be meeting High-Performance Beach athletes in early April to reaffirm the plan for this coming season and provide some clarity around the logistics of the delivery of this.

We would like to assure you that athletes’ welfare, safety and well-being remain the utmost priority for this programme and all Scottish Volleyball activities.

If you have any concerns you wish to raise urgently, please do so in the strictest of confidence via welfare@scottishvolleyball.org.
