After many outstanding years as President of Scottish Volleyball’s referee commission, Sandy Steel has taken the tough decision to take a step back and has subsequently resigned as President of the Commission. As many of you will know, Sandy has been the driving force for refereeing not just in Scotland but throughout the World with his previous role of President of FIVB’s Rules of the Games Commission and current role of member of FIVB’s Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission. His knowledge, desire to improve the game we all love, and contacts throughout the world will be a big loss although all of us in the Referee Commission are delighted that Sandy has accepted the role of Honorary President of the Referee Commission. Furthermore, Sandy will maintain his place on the Scottish Volleyball Board as the General Secretary.
Following Sandy’s resignation, the Referee Commission have elected Dave Cormie as the new President of the commission. Following acceptance of this role, Dave commented: “I am truly honoured to have been nominated by Sandy and subsequently elected by the Referee Commission to take on this role. Clearly there are some very big shoes to be filled and I really hope that I can do the role justice. I am excited to continue the work undertaken by Sandy and to see what we, collectively as the Referee Commission and Scottish Volleyball, can achieve for the referees, clubs and members. I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Sandy for all the help that he has provided to me since my first referee course almost 20 years ago. I am also exceptionally glad that he will still be available to share his wise words on some of the more complex issues that we face”.
