Just one more week until we welcome athletes from around Europe for the beach volleyball Commonwealth Games Qualifiers held at Portobello Beach! Preparations are well underway for the three day event, and Scottish Volleyball is excited to release the official list of competing teams later on this week.
The competition will start on Friday afternoon, with teams competing in pool play for the first two days, before semi-finals and finals take place on the Sunday. Teams are looking for that vital first place finish, with a win gaining their country a spot at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham next year. For Scotland, we’ll be looking to make it two in a row as the men’s team and women’s team both qualified for the last games, held at the Gold Coast in Australia 2018.
Seating will be available for spectators at the event, and all matches will be streamed live on our channels and on the BBC online sport. We’re hoping the sunny weather will make an appearance as well.
Veronica Rusich, Competitions officer at Scottish Volleyball and Tournament Director for the event had this to say about the qualifiers; “We’ve been organising and planning this event for a long time now, so it’s very exciting to be to so close to the start! We’re looking forward to hosting all the athletes and having a great competition”
Further updates will be published on our website and social media platforms. We are always on the lookout for event volunteers – if you would be interested in helping out, please get in contact with the Special Events team at events@scottishvolleyball.org
