The Scottish Volleyball Beach Commission has a new face at the helm! On Wednesday evening, at the SV Board meeting, the appointment of Nisbet Duffin as President was officially ratified. Nisbet has been a stalwart of the Beach Commission for many years and is well known to everyone in our sport. He brings a wealth of volleyball experience and business skill to the position of President and the Board is both excited and delighted in welcoming Nisbet into his new role.
Nisbet’s appointment comes after long term President Gerry MacDonald resigned to pursue other challenges. Gerry continues to be heavily involved with his club NUVOC and will not be a stranger to the sand or volleyball. Gerry’s work developing the beach tour, his enduring enthusiasm and beach volleyball knowledge in Scotland cannot be underestimated. Scottish Volleyball sincerely thanks Gerry for all his years of hard work and dedication and wish him well in his future endeavours.
With restrictions on indoor play looking to continue well into the summer the spotlight is certainly on beach Volleyball again this summer. Our competitions officer Veronica Rusich has been working with Nisbet, the rest of the Commission and Scottish Volleyball staff to refresh the Scottish beach tour. Look out for a new format, a bespoke online digital platform for scoring, show centre courts, with prize money returning for the 2021 tour.
This new refreshed Scottish Summer Beach Tour will coincide with more club lead community sessions and events whilst complimenting the inclusion of three Scottish dates in the UKBT. With all this including the Commonwealth Games qualifiers in September, it is certainly going to be a busy summer of beach volleyball.
The Beach Commission are actively looking for new members that equally represent our diverse playing family. It is a great time to get involved so keep your eyes peeled for an advert and more information in the coming days.
The Beach Commission are also looking to employ a logistics officer to help with the transportation of equipment to venues and venue set up. This would require a time commitment of approximately 6 Saturdays over the summer of 2021. If you are interested in this Commission’s position, please email info@scottishvolleyball for more details.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind members and our wider sporting community that the official SV website and our Facebook/social media platforms are the only place to find out all the latest, news, guidance and event information relating to all SV organised activities and competitions.
