Strathaven Academy was the stage for the MAcvolley NetSetGo CEV Schools Project launch on Tuesday, March 19. Over 80 young people were welcomed at the event by representatives from National and Local project partners.
CEV Development Manager Vuk Karanovic and Director of Sports Training at Volley Vlaanderen, Kristof De Loose flew to Scotland to celebrate the success of the CEV Schools Project in the country and witness the synergy amongst the partners involved in this West region MACvolley NetSetGo schools project.
The day was a triumph with the young people not only receiving a ‘Balloon & Ball’ masterclass coaching session delivered by De Loose but joining also a 2vs2 festival made possible by the outstanding facilities available at Strathaven Academy.
Partnership work between CEV, sportscotland, Scottish Volleyball Association (SVA), Glasgow Mets VC, South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture, South Lanarkshire Active Schools, Strathaven Academy and their cluster primary schools has created a solid foundation for this three-year school project to flourish.
Training and development of 2 Local Development Officers and 15 young leaders from Strathaven Academy will maintain the progress achieved in the project’s first year. Strong links with Glasgow Mets will further connect the primary and high school to local opportunities to continue the fun had by all at a club level.
The West region project headed by Regional Development Officer Andrew Fleming has worked with 186 young people delivering over 35 hours of coaching and two MACvolley NetSetGo Festivals. This adds to the National project achievements delivered through Kinross High School and Drummond Community High School.
The launch was also supported by VolleyballPhotos who captured the fun and excitement felt by all at the launch.
SVA CEO and CEV Vice President Margaret Ann Fleming MBE: “Strong partnerships have been key to the continuing growth and success of this CEV and Scottish Federation project. It was a pleasure to welcome Vuk and Kristof to Scotland and to see the joy and improvement in the young Scottish participating volleyball athletes.”
CEV Development Manager Vuk Karanovic: “I was really happy to see that the CEV Schools Project MACvolley NetSetGo has sparked a real Volleyball fever in Scotland. The Scottish Association understood the concept of the project and they have started with its implementation in a perfect way. It was nice to see that the other national partner in the project, sportscotland are also satisfied with the partnership. Such project will not just grow the Volleyball community in Scotland but also improve the brand image of the Federation by delivering a successful programme to the local communities where it is implemented.”
West Regional Development Officer Andrew Fleming: “This NetSetGo project has been the most successful piece of partnership work that I have been involved with during my four years as the SVA Regional Development Officer. The impact that this NetSetGo project will have in the coming three years to the learning community will be massive. Volleyball has not traditionally been a sport delivered in any of the primary schools or the secondary school. Thanks to the CEV Schools Project, Volleyball will now be embedded across the full education spectrum in the area which will grow the sport at local level and club.”
