Scottish Volleyball in agreement with the SVA Coaching Commission and SVA Performance Management Group have appointed Women’s Commonwealth Games Coach Martyn Johnstone on an Interim basis, until October 2018 as Head Coach of the Senior Women’s Beach Programme.
This is a great opportunity to further improve the Women’s Programme on a National and International front using Martyn’s experience gained from the 2018 Commonwealth games and the links he has made with International Federations and Coaches.
Martyn Johnstone commented, ‘I am very happy to further develop the work that myself and the Commonwealth Games Beach players have done over the past couple of years and to give regular training and access to beach competition Nationally and Internationally.
The SVA shall advertise for a permanent Men and Women’s Beach Head Coach in October 2018 to take forward both programmes on a two year cycle.
Margaret Ann Fleming, SVA CEO said; “Beach Volleyball is not just a game for the summer, it is a 12 month sport with nearly 50 World Tour Competitions which is where we need to strive our athletes to want to compete. Martyn has been working hard in the past couple of weeks to establish a support mechanism for the programme which will involve a change in culture for our Performance and aspiring Athletes. The SVA is delighted that Martyn after his success with the women’s pair in the Gold Coast has taken up this voluntary role and we wish him the best of luck and weather over these next few months’
SWBP Open Training Sessions
Scottish Volleyball is very happy to announce a series of Open Training to the Scotland Women’s Beach Volleyball Programme. We will be building on the success of the Women’s and Junior Women’s Commonwealth Games athletes giving a regular pathway to international competition.
The training days will take place over a period of dates in May/June 2018. There will be 2 squads created from the training sessions (Elite and Open).
The Elite Squads will train towards entering International Competitions in summer 2018 while the Open Squad will be to develop the performance level of Scottish based players competing in the Beach Volleyball Scotland Tour with the intention of moving into the Elite Squads in the future.
This is a great opportunity to compete against some of the World’s best while improving your physical and tactical traits. (Please see previous article on the benefits of Beach Volleyball to the indoor game)
If you wish to be considered for any of the trial dates, please in the first instance contact the SVA Office by Email.
Once we have received your expression of interest, the newly appointed Interim Head Coach will contact you directly to inform you of training dates and programme commitments.
