Everyone at Nuvoc Volleyball Club is deeply saddened by the news of Allan Smith’s death.
Allan started playing volleyball when he was a pupil at Firrhill HS, and represented Scotland at junior level. It was at this time that he almost met his future wife Susie – they both trained in the same hall for the Edinburgh school squads but did not notice each other. Destiny played its part and ensured their paths crossed again when they both played for Pentland VC. They were married in 1981.
Allan played at Pentland prior to the establishment of Nuvoc VC in 1983. He was a founding member of the club and, in a playing career spanning four decades, he represented Nuvoc at all levels of competition. For many years, he was a key member of the Nuvoc men’s first team, and for the last few seasons he has made a valuable contribution to the men’s second team alongside some of the club’s younger players.
Allan will be missed by all. Our thoughts are with Susie and the rest of Allan’s family.
