The UK School Games has been a major feature of the Scottish Volleyball
Association’s cadet programme for 11years, and has provided a platform for our young players to develop and showcase their talent and performance levels. So, it is with disappointment that the decision has been made not to continue with indoor volleyball at the 2018 Games.
Thomas Dowens, the SVA’s Director of Coaching said:
“While it is regrettable that volleyball will no longer feature in the School Games programme, it is also an exciting opportunity for the Home Nation Federations to look into how best to serve our talented Cadets and the wider volleyball community. We will look to create new competitions that capture the imagination of players and coaches, and work with new competitive partners to support the players in our performance pathway to achieve the highest standard possible”.
From an SVA perspective the experience we have gained from being included in the Games is significant. None more so than with the team of volunteers who delivered a structure for our Cadet players to develop their performances and achieve excellence.
Margaret Ann Fleming, the CEO of the Scottish Volleyball Association said:
“Scottish Volleyball is so very proud of all the athletes, coaches, officials,
staff members and volunteers who have contributed over the years to the UK School Games programme. The SVA will endeavour to build on our successful involvement with the Games, and inspire our young players with new opportunities and competitions”.
Will Roberts, Director of Operations at Youth Sport Trust said:
“Volleyball has been a fantastic part of the event since 2007 and will be missed from the programme as it had a unique atmosphere and was always great sport. We were delighted that the School Games National Finals was able to provide a great competitive and talent development arena for the sport over 11 years and hope that the sport is able to continue supporting and inspiring youngsters to get involved and fulfil their potential.”
