Craig Girvan, currently Vice President of Glasgow Caledonian University VC was recognized recently with the award of Scottish Student Volleyball Volunteer of the Year 2016.
Having been President of GCU Men’s Volleyball team for the past two years, Craig’s efforts and input on behalf of the club was recognized through his fellow club members’ nomination which highlighted the extensive work that he has undertaken in supporting club activity and development.
Craig’s volunteering input has included all aspects of fixture administration; purchasing of new club equipment; match officiating and representation of the club at meetings and workshops, such as the SVA Stronger Clubs conference which was held in Stirling.
Craig has also been a strong supporter of the university women’s team, which included travelling to Birmingham and Liverpool with them as part of their involvement in the British Universities and Colleges Trophy.
Craig’s volunteering has extended beyond his university club, being Press Officer in 2016 with Glasgow Mets, as well as sitting on the SVA Student Commission as one of the student representatives. His attendance at the UK School games as a technical official and his refereeing involvement at numerous tournaments around the country only serves to highlight his passion and commitment to the sport.
Craig is currently completing his Masters degree at Glasgow Caledonian University and continues to support the new volleyball club President and the club with his time and experience.
