The Scottish Volleyball League was in full swing this weekend with all divisions in play for the first time in Season 2015/16.
SVL Premier Men
Defending champions South Ayrshire came back from a set down to NUVOC to comfortably win the next 3 sets and pick up all 3 points. City of Glasgow Ragazzi made good work over Edinburgh Jets defeating them 3-0 while City of Edinburgh continued their good start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Glasgow Mets.
SVL Premier Women
Last year’s champions City of Edinburgh increased their lead further this weekend with a strong victory over Aberdonia at Queensferry, while fellow Edinburgh teams NUVOC won a big match away to QTS Troon and Edinburgh Jets didn’t quite manage to cross the finish line away to Su Ragazzi losing 3-2.
SVL 1 Men
Bon Accord kept their winning run intact with a convincing 3-0 victory away to City of Edinburgh II while Su Ragazzi II failed to beat Dundee at home losing 3-1.
SVL 1 Women
The new triangular series was underway this weekend with NUVOC II and QTS Troon II picking up 3-0 victories over South Ayrshire while Troon inflicted a 3-0 win defeat on NUVOC II. New college side Ayrshire College took to the court for the very first time against tough opposition in the way of Glasgow International and Su Ragazzi II. Although they lost 3-0 in both matches, they certainly learned a lot about how to compete on the national stage. Su II closed out their day with a 3-0 victory over GI. Edinburgh Jets II kicked off their campaign with a home series against Caledonia West and University of Edinburgh. The university side defeated Jets 3-1 while also winning 3-0 against Caledonia West before Edinburgh Jets II and their Ayrshire counterparts played out a thrilling 3-0 victory for the Edinburgh side.
SVL 2 Men
The Men’s competition kicked off with the islanders Shetland travelling to Edinburgh to take on NUVOC II and University of Edinburgh. The University side came off a big victory in BUCS to defeat both the sides 3-0 while Shetland had a great start against NUVOC II before losing the next 3 sets and that match. Ayrshire College hosted their first fixtures ever in the Scottish Volleyball League with everything going according to plan in the first set vs NUVOC III. The Edinburgh side did not read the script and came back to win the match 3-1. Both sides then faced a strong South Ayrshire II losing 3-0 in the process. The final matches in the division took place in Glasgow with Livingston Lizards, Edinburgh Jets II and Glasgow Mets all facing off against each other. Glasgow Mets took a strong hold on the matches defeating the West Lothian side 3-1 and the Edinburgh side 3-0.
Livingston then came back from a set down to beat Edinburgh Jets II 3-1 and get their first victory ever in Scottish Volleyball.
The SVL Premier and SVL 1 Men move into week 3 of the season this weekend with some hotly contested matches which deserve to be watched by engrossed spectators.
