The COCO5 Finals Weekend is upon us and is sure to be bigger than ever.
Not only are we delighted to have our sponsors COCO5 with us all weekend, we are also delighted to be starting the weekend with a Student vs Juniors International.
The Scottish Students Representative team will take to the taraflex against the Scotland Juniors who are in preparation for next year’s European Championships. The student team has many players who have graduated from the junior’s squad in the last year so it will be an interesting match to see the new young guns taking on the old young guns. The women’s match starts at 5pm and the Men’s match is at 7.30pm.
Su Ragazzi II and Edinburgh Jets II Women kick off the fight for the first of 8 titles over the course of the weekend. These 2 teams have faced each other twice in the last few weeks with Su edging both matches but they certainly didn’t have it their own way. Both teams will be vying to finish the season on a high by lifting the Scottish Plate trophy.
QTS Kyle TA take to the court at 12pm FBS with their new look coaching team taking on a University of Edinburgh side competing on their home court for the Scottish Thistle Bowl. Edunburgh Uni are coming off a fantastic run in the BUCS championships but would hope to go one step further by lifting a National title.
Division 1 Men’s league champions South Ayrshire face off against their rivals Glasgow Mets in the thistle bowl at 2pm. This is not the Mets first team they will be competing against though but Mets with their determined attitude will look to make life extremely tough for the Ayrshire side and hopefully cause a big upset in the process.
Su Ragazzi II and South Ayrshire II bring Saturday to a close with another fiercely contested match between these 2 teams. Su have had the upper hand on the South team this season but anything can happen in the Scottish Plate Final.
Sunday kicks off with Team Lanarkshire Ragazzi taking on South Ayrshire in the Men’s Junior Super Cup match. Both teams competed to a high level in the qualification rounds and both earned the right to fight for the trophy.
Jess Reid’s Marr College will try to avenge last season’s Junior Super Cup defeat to Team Lanarkshire Ragazzi in which the Lanarkshire side won convincingly. Ragazzi won the Under 18 Playoffs in the decider in December. Will this match go the distance?
The Women’s Scottish Cup Final has a very east coast feel about it. Last year’s winners Edinburgh Jets will be looking to retain the title against this year’s National League and Playoff Champions City of Edinburgh. Captains Dominika Stepien and Jen Thom will be hoping to lift the final piece of silverware this year which could see City of Edinburgh lift the treble which would be a remarkable turnaround in fortune.
The final match of the weekend will see last year’s runners up Glasgow Mets try to recapture the Scottish Cup from Division 2 champions NUVOC. This is the first Cup Final appearance in NUVOC’s history and they will be going all out to make Scottish Volleyball history. Mets on the other hand will have different ideas as they look to land the piece of silverware which would land them the treble and a perfect way to finish the season.
This weekend is long but it is filled with a lot of fun and exciting volleyball. There will also be some fun and entertainment along the way.
We hope you can join us for a great weekend.
