It is with pleasure, enthusiasm and expectation that the Scottish Volleyball Association can announce that as of today Tuesday 1st July 2014, Lynne Beattie (East) and Andrew Fleming (West) began work within the Association as our newly appointed East and West Regional Development Officers.
In partnership with sportscotland and the East/West regional teams, Lynne and Andrew have both started their development role and shall be based between the Head Office of the Regional team in Caledonia House – Edinburgh, Templeton – Glasgow and the SVA office.
Lynne and Andrew bring to these roles a wealth of experience both as a player and as a coach. Their proven determination to develop volleyball and the fact that they are so well know within the volleyball community should ensure the quick establishment of strong school to club links and positive relationships with local authorities, national agencies and members. The job requires that Lynne and Andrew work with and develop clubs, players, officials and volunteers. The key aspects of the role is to support the Association through membership increase, junior development, club organisation and delivery and to make sure the SVA reaches its aims and objectives set out in the Bigger, Better, Stronger Strategic Plan 2013-17”

Brief synopsis from Lynne Beattie:
I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as Regional Development Officer 
(East) with the Scottish Volleyball Association, the place where it all began for me as a volleyball player. I am excited to have the opportunity to work in a sport that has been a very big part of my life over the last few years and am looking forward to working with Andy Fleming, whose wealth of experience in volleyball development over the years will prove to be an invaluable addition to the Association.
I started playing volleyball at Mearns Castle High School at the age of 12 and instantly fell in love with the sport, with strong ambition to improve as a player and the goal of being selected for Scotland one day. At the age of 16, I joined Glasgow Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club where my passion for volleyball grew, gaining my first senior international cap for Scotland at the age of 17 at the Kelvin Hall against England (2003). Little did I know that our English counterparts on that day were soon to become my team mates as part of the Great Britain Women’s volleyball team just 2 years later.
Following the announcement in 2005 that London had won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games, I relocated to Sheffield to train full time, in a bid to make the final 12 selected to represent Team GB at London 2012. During this time I played professional volleyball in 5 different European Leagues; Slovenia, Italy, Germany, Spain and Switzerland, an invaluable experience that has seen me grow as a player and an individual. In the summer of 2012, I achieved my lifelong ambition of becoming an Olympian, Captaining the Great Britain team in our first ever indoor appearance at an Olympic Games.
These experiences, coupled with my passion to contribute to the development of our sport is something that I will draw upon in the position of RDO East with the SVA, where my role will be to support and develop clubs, players, officials and volunteers during a very exciting time for our sport.
Brief synopsis from Andrew Fleming:
I have been involved in volleyball for many years. I began playing at 
Woodfarm High school and shortly after I joined Su Ragazzi. I then moved club to Team Blantyre and I have been at this club through the years and various name changes to the now Glasgow Mets VC. I have been involved in National team programmes at both junior and senior level. As a player I have domestic success in all National league and Cup competitions and I hope to continue to enjoy playing. As a coach I have developed junior programmes and worked with Men and Women’s programmes in the National league. I have also spent some time developing my coaching skills in the USA, working in the summer at various college and Universities. My playing highlight would be bringing Glasgow Mets First ever Domestic title as player coach.
I have pursued a career in sport, gaining an Honours Degree in sports studies. After graduation I secured a post with South Lanarkshire leisure and culture and for the past 9 years have worked as an Active schools coordinator in South Lanarkshire. This has given me a great range of skills that I will bring to bear on this position and enabled me to work on some high level projects such as the International Children’s games, The Olympic Torch relay and the Queens Baton relay. I am very excited about the prospect of working for the Scottish Volleyball Association as the West RDO. I am also looking forward to working alongside Lynne Beattie as the East RDO. I am ready and excited for the challenges that await me in this role and I look forward to connecting with the many clubs and volunteers that are currently working so hard to make Scottish Volleyball Bigger, Better, Stronger for the years to come.
