How fantastic! The Scotland under 20 men have just won Gold at the European SC championships becoming the first team from Scotland to win a European title in our volleyball history. Well done to coach Thomas Dowens, his staff and his players.
Now it is the turn of the Scotland under 19 women to see if they can do Scotland proud at their European SC Finals from Thurday (17th April) to Saturday (19th).
Two years ago at the last finals Scotland returned with a surprise but much merited silver medal. The team is virtually new, only Mhairi Agnew of Su Ragazzi played in the finals the last time but there is immense talent in the squad with Agnew, Claudia Hendry of City of Edinburgh and Troon’s six of Jane Drauz Brown, Julianne Hendry, Lisa Thomson, Emma Lawrie, Marsail Hood and Rachel Morrison all plying their trade in the Scottish Senior women’s first division add to that sisters Raveen and Priya Gill and Megan Quinn who helped Su Ragazzi’s second team win the Scottish second division and Katie Shaw who trains with City of Edinburgh and with the Scotland Senior Women and you can see why this Scotland team could make an impact in San Marino.
Some people’s favourites for the title Luxembourg are first up for the Scots on Thursday and Friday brings the challenge of two matches, the first against tournament newcomers Wales the second against hosts San Marino, Saturday sees the tournament close for the Scots with a match against Liechtenstein.
Some of the Scotland players have been training and playing six and sometimes even seven days a week and the remainder not far behind so one thing is for sure these girls have given a great deal of commitment already towards Scottish Volleyball.
One thing is certain they will give their very best to their Scotland jerseys and they will make all us Scottish volleyballers extremely proud of them.
We will have a small coterie of Scotland fans with us made up of family members, everyone else can keep up with the teams progress through the CEV live scores system. We will endeavour to keep you up to date too on Facebook.
I am sure you join with me to wish our women well in this super adventure.
