This selection was by far the hardest decision I have had to make as a coach of long standing. The standard of the training group is so high that we have been forced to leave a considerable number of highly talented and very committed players out of the 12 players who will travel to the Europeans. Our commiserations go to those players as do our thanks for the commitment and quality that they bring to the group and to their parents and guardians for their immense support too.
At the last Europeans 2 years ago, the Scotland under 18 women finished in a fantastic second place and clearly our ambitions have to be to replicate that finish or indeed improve upon it. This, of course, will be extremely difficult but I along with the other coaches and team management for the team wholeheartedly believe that this current group of players have the ability to make their own special mark on this tournament.
Training for San Marino is now to be stepped up and there is a full training programme in place which can be viewed in the National team section of the Scottish Volleyball website. When the venues are posted on the website everyone is welcome to come down and view the players in training action.
We know that our players will now set in place personal training programmes too which will ensure that they give it their very best shot in San Marino. We shall keep you all informed of their journey as they make their way to the tournament and as they strive to do Scotland and Scottish volleyball proud.
