The 2013 John Syer Trophy Finalists were decided today after some mammoth matches involving up to 9 teams for the 4 Final Spots.
The venue for next Sundays Finals will be Linlithgow Academy. The finals will conclude a day of volleyball which includes the Under 15 Junior National League Warm Up Tournament.
City of Edinburgh Women were favourites to progress into the Final after their recent victory over Su Ragazzi. The Suettes had a different opinion and took the game to the capital side. After a long battle City of Edinburgh won the match 3-2 and progress into the final to take on QTS Troon Team Ayrshire who overcame their opponents Edinburgh Jets in 5 sets. Troon have never failed to reach a John Syer Trophy Final which is very impressive. The 2 teams square off in a repeat of last season’s final.
In the Men’s Competition, it was not so straight forward. Both pools came down to the teams winning the most sets to qualify for the final. In Pool A, City of Edinburgh knew only a 3-0 victory at home to City of Glasgow Ragazzi would be enough to book their place in the final. The City side duly completed this task and will now take on Glasgow Mets in the final. Mets won Pool B on sets for after themselves, South Ayrshire and Edinburgh Jets all won 2 matches each.
The stage is set for next weekend’s finals and they are going to be intense matches. Get along to Linlithgow Academy and watch the form teams competing for the first piece of silverware before Christmas.
