The Scottish Volleyball Association is launching an exciting new programme to encourage and develop new coaches into the game in Scotland. We are seeking 12 Level 1 coaches who are interested in developing their coaching career and want to work with clubs and or the various National team programmes.
As an organisation we are particularly interested in identifying and developing female coaches and as such their applications will be given priority however the programme will be open to all prospective coaches.
What will the programme offer the coach?
The SVA coach apprenticeship programme will invest in the development of a group of coaches who have been identified as having potential and have shown commitment to become future Club or National Squad Coaches. The programme will strengthen the technical and tactical knowledge of the targeted individuals whilst ensuring that they are growing as both a person and a coach.
The programme will be built on strong foundations of respect, trust and open communication to encourage independence while promoting self confidence
A set of workshops and on court ‘apprentice coaching’ will be accompanied by mentoring. The programme will also work to place the coach within an existing club or team throughout the duration of the programme. Successful applicants will also receive a £150 Scholarship towards their future development.
Workshops/Development Activities:
A number of coach development workshops will be offered to the coaches. Some of the workshops will be designed to meet the needs of Scottish Volleyball programmes will others will be determined by the individual needs of the coaches (as set by their personal development plans).
Compulsory set activities will include:
• Set of technical and tactical workshops
• Set of ‘how 2’ coach workshop e.g. Planning & Periodisation
• UKCC Level 1 Certification (working towards UKCC Level 2)
• Providing regular feedback on development and experiences within the programme
• Attend and contribute to coaching forums, seminars and events
Apprenticeship
Coaches will work alongside a technical expert to develop their technical and tactical knowledge. The lead coach will create a safe environment that supports risk taking and innovation. The apprenticeship will give the coaches the opportunity to put their learning into practice in a safe, supportive environment. Coaches will be encouraged to turn to their ‘lead coach’ for all technical and tactical support in the first instance.
The coaches may complete their apprenticeship with the National League or JNL programme. Equally they may be appointed into coaching positions within one of the National Squads.
