Sunday saw the first round of fixtures in the new U15 Junior National League.
With 11 teams across the boys and girls, and lots of new faces, it is a very exciting time for junior volleyball!
The boy’s competition kicked off in South Queensferry, as City of Edinburgh hosted South Ayrshire, Team Lanarkshire and Cavalry Park NUVOC.
Although the results aren’t really important at this stage in the development, it was South Ayrshire who succeeded to win both their games. The highlight was a closely fought game between the two teams from the capital with City of Edinburgh edging out Nuvoc 2-1.
City of Edinburgh Coach & Youth and Schools chair, Heather Darling commented, ‘all the kids were exceptionally well behaved and sporting, lots of parents came along to support the teams and a great day was had by all! A fantastic start to the Boys U15 JNL!’
She also commented on that it was good to see some young coaches working with the teams.
This was also the case in the girl’s section with North Lanarkshire hosting Marr College B and City of Edinburgh at St. Maurice’s High School.
There were parents, team managers, coaches and volunteers all helping the kids with the different learning tasks involved in a JNL day.
All games finished 2-1 and the development from start to finish was evident to see, with controlled 3 touch rallies appearing more and more frequent as the day progressed. North Lanarkshire coach Tom Rooney said ‘Congratulations to all teams today who all worked hard and played some very good volleyball.’
The other triangular was at Marr College where Marr A hosted Team Lanarkshire and Marr College C. The level of play was high for this new age group and some great volleyball was on show as Marr College A edged Team Lanarkshire 2-1.
