Saturday 6th October 2012 – Men’s Division 1 was full of some very convincing results with all the fixtures finishing 3-0. Stuart Edgar’s Kilmarnock defeated City of Glasgow Ragazzi and the Kilmarnock Head Coach Stuart said ‘Going to Coltness to play a Ragazzi side with 3 former GB internationals is never going to be easy so we are happy to have come away with a 3-0 win. We lived up to our tag as champions, although as a team I didn’t think we played to our full potential. There were good performances from Euan Duncan and Stewart Caldwell along with our strong serving saw us through the game’. Glasgow Mets returned to winning ways with a victory at Dundee with Edinburgh Jets picking up their first win of the season over South Ayrshire. Finally City of Edinburgh kept up their 100% record over Bon Accord.
In the Women’s Division 1 Troon Team Ayrshire travelled to Su Ragazzi and managed to overcome a tough team and match and win 3-1. Coach Vince Krawczyk commented ‘By the end of the 1st set Su were playing a confident game of volleyball and Troon looked worried. Having re-gathered ourselves at the start of the second set and with some tactical nous coming to the fore, the game was never then in doubt as the team won the next 3 sets. Other results from the division were NLVC beat close rivals NUVOC 3-0, Edinburgh Jets won against South Ayrshire 3-0 and City of Edinburgh finally overcame Aberdonia 3-2 after leading 2-0. With only two weekends played so far; this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive women’s season for a number of years.
Edinburgh Jets II started their campaign off in Women’s Division 2 with a convincing 3-0 victory over a youthful South Ayrshire II side. Also, Kyle Team Ayrshire travelled to Dundee and managed to leave with a very impressive 3-1 victory.
Su Ragazzi II took their first win of the season with a 3-1 result over Kilmarnock II in the 2nd Division West. Some excellent play especially in the 2nd set by both teams ensured this was an exciting match for the spectators to watch. Bellshill and South Ayrshire maintained their positions at the top of the league with 3-0 victories over Glasgow Mets II and South Ayrshire III respectively.
City of Edinburgh II maintained the number 1 spot in Division 2 East with an excellent performance against league rivals Beacon; it was a strong 3-0 victory with some outstanding individual performances. Edinburgh Jets II overcame a plucky Edinburgh Jets III with a 3-1 victory. Jets III really demonstrated spirit and determination by taking the second set 27-25.
With all teams off this weekend, it gives everyone a chance to rejuvenate, re-organise and in some cases manage a spot of extra training for the 1st Round of the Scottish Cup and John Syer Trophy on the 20th October.
