The schedule for the 2011 UK School Games ‘development and selection programme’ has been established, and this is your opportunity to be part of this fantastic event.
Scotland fields four teams in the competition;
• Scotland West and South Boys
• Scotland West and South Girls
• Scotland East and North Boys
• Scotland East and North Girls
To be selected for one of the four Scottish teams you have to first participate in the development programme!
You do not have to be a high level player to be nominated to attend the development sessions….
To be nominated you simply have to be a sports enthusiast, you have to be committed to getting better, you have to be willing to listen to, and work with, the coaches, and you have to be ambitious…. If this describes you then why not sign up for the 2011 programme.
You can nominate yourself for the sessions, or your parents can nominate you, or your volleyball coach, or your PE teacher, there’s lots of ways of signing up.
The first two sessions of this year’s programme are targeted at players in the North East. They will take place on Saturday April 30th at the Banchory Sports Centre in Aberdeen 10.30 – 15.30. Then on Saturday May 7th at Portlethen Academy 10.00 – 15.00. Both sessions are being supported by the Aberdeen District Volleyball Association and Aberdeenshire Council, and last year there were several players from the North East who made the final teams!
The first sessions in the Central belt will take place on Saturday May 21st
• For the players from the East and North it will be at Linlithgow Academy 12.00 – 17.00
• For the players from the West and South it will be at Wishaw Sports Centre 10.00 – 15.00
The age groups for the event are U16 for the girls, and U17 for the boys
The 2011 event will be held in Sheffield and it is just ’ The Best’…..talk to any of the Scottish athletes who were in Newcastle in September 2010 – talk to anyone who was in Cardiff in 2009 – the UK School Games is the most fantastic opportunity to experience both a major games, and high level volleyball.
