Wednesday 3rd – Sunday 7th August 2011
The Scottish Volleyball Association is working in partnership with North and South Lanarkshire to present the volleyball tournament at the ICG in 2011. The volleyball event will feature both male and female teams, will take place at Wishaw Sports Centre, and is a fantastic opportunity to develop and showcase cadet level volleyball in Lanarkshire.
The talent identification and development programmes are successfully underway, and making good progress. The age group for the players is U16 and nominations for participation in the programme can still be accepted…… The Head Coach for the boy’s programme is Greg Coburn, and for the girls it’s Nicky James. The programme includes camps during the school vacations, regular weekly practice sessions at Carluke High School, St Maurices HS in Cumbernauld, and the Ally McCoist Sports Centre in East Kilbride. Further information on these sessions can be obtained by contacting the SVA Offices, or Dougie Holmes at North Lanarkshire.
There’s an opportunity for you to get involved in this programme. If you are a player in the age range you can ‘try out’ for the teams. If you are interested in coaching you can join Greg at Carluke, or Nicky at St Maurices, or work with Andy Fleming who is doing a great job at the Ally McCoist Centre in East Kilbride.
For the players the development programme that has been established includes the teams entering the SVA’s U16 Junior National League in the coming season. For those who are interested in being an Assistant Coach there’s the chance to be involved in this fantastic project, learn a lot more about coaching and preparing a team for a major championship, and helping the players succeed in this International Competition.
If you are available to help – in any way, then I would urge you to get in touch with Kirsteen at the SVA Office on 0131 556 4633 or email. Alternatively contact Dougie Holmes at 01236 437756 or email
