St Andrews Beach Event

Covered Seated Arena Confirmed for St Andrews Beach Volleyball Championships

The celebrating Fife 2010 St Andrews Beach Volleyball Championships are being held over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of August 2010. With the support of Celebrating Fife 2010 and Fife Councils St Andrews local area budget the organisers have commissioned Tigerfish Productions, the company responsible for the Byre Theatre productions, to create a seated arena around the centre court. Tigerfish will also create quality broadcasting around the entire beach volleyball championship area.

The St Andrews Beach Volleyball Championships are held on the famous West Sands Beach, adjacent to the iconic 18th Hole and the Royal and Ancient Club House. This provides the perfect setting for attracting spectators and interest to Scottish Beach Volleyball.

We now have quality Beach Volleyballers, Colin Paterson, Gillian Lyall, Barry McGuigan, Claire Penny, Graham Riddle, Gavin Watt, Mel Coutts, Colin McNab, James Jenson, Eilidh Smith, Konrad Krawczyk, Barry Robertson, Jack McKeown, Shelly Paterson et al.

However this years St Andrews Beach Volleyabll Championships is the perfect platform for Scotlands best indoor players to challenge the beach specialists at their own game. Although some of our national team players like Mike Penny, Alan Krawczyk, Gordon Welsh and Stuart Edgar have dabbled on the beach, this is the perfect opportunity for Johnny Herley, Chris Lamont, Ally Galloway, Simon Hammond and even Brian O’Neil to test the Beach Specialists! For the women, it would be great to see if Emma Clarkson, Beth and Caroline Clayton, Aileen Hall, Laura Bolton, Laura McReady and Hazel Gow can transfer their indoor skills to the Beach Game.

Free beach side camping is allowed while others can stay at the St Andrews University residences. The Saturday night tradition is for all the beach volleyballers to go to One Golf Place, who have commissioned a new John McPhail trophy for this years event.

I hope that some players who compete in the outdoor leagues at the Scottish Open will try their hand at this years St Andrews Beach Volleyball division 2 championships. And I look forward to seeing our best indoor players rise to the challange at St Andrews Beach Volleyball Championships 2010.
