Another fabulous day at Costa Troon – warm weather, beautiful sunshine and not even the usual Troon ‘breeze’ to spoil proceedings.
The women’s competition was a five team round robin with the top two playing a final. It was won by Shelly Paterson and Ashley Dennis with a consistent performance – their strong defence and clever attacking allowing them to win comfortably over Gillian Lyall and Sarah Robertson (2-0, 22-20, 21-7), they didn’t drop a set all day. Well done to Sarah who reached the final in her first ever beach tournament – there is more to come from this girl on the beach.
In the men’s competition saw 17 teams competing in the pool stages in the morning. In the semi finals McKeown/Muir beat Robertson/Najdrowski 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) and Watt/MacNab beat Salvin/Paterson 2-0 (21-16, 21-14). So on to the final- it was a sterling effort by McKeown and Moir but they were beaten by previous Troon winners Gavin Watt and Colin McNab 2-0 (21-11, 21-18) with Callum Moir achieving his highest ever finish on the Scottish Tour by a long way. The youngsters Liam Darling and Glenn Robison had a very good placing of 9th in their first Div one outing – well done to them.
A big thank you to God for the weather and the usual Troon crowd- Emma, Elaine, wee Jenny, Steph McCall, Sarah, Steph Campbell, Gordon and Steven for their invaluable assistance. And also to Colin Paterson who is always there to make sure things go smoothly! Thanks again.
