Margaret Ann Fleming the CEO of Scottish Volleyball and two young Scottish Volleyball athletes Jamie McHardy (City of Edinburgh Club) and Emma Girot (Jets Volleyball Club) represented Volleyball at an esteemed gathering of Politicians, National Governing Bodies, sportscotland, University and College sport along with many other agencies at the launch of the Scottish Sports Alliance manifesto for sport in Scotland “Scotland’s sporting Chance” at the Scottish Parliament, Garden Lobby, Tuesday 9th February 2010.
James Kelly MSP organised the event and launch with the key note speaker being Scott Hastings former Scottish, British and Irish Lions Rugby International. Shona Robinson MSP and Minister for Public health and Sport presented the Governments vision for sport and legacy and congratulated the Sporting Alliance and all National Governing Bodies for the proactive steps for development shown within the Sporting Chance manifesto. Shona Robinson talked with Jamie and Emma for a considerable length and both reflected on their positive involvement with Volleyball and of our sports aspirations for the years ahead.
Volleyball’s CEO said “this was a fantastic opportunity for Volleyball to be placed on the sporting map; I along with several other sporting partners were asked to help shape the manifesto and represent Volleyball at our Parliament in Edinburgh, our young players were asked many questions on the night from all political parties and were a true inspiration for all volleyball athletes.”

A brief resume of the manifesto:
“Sport in Scotland has a golden opportunity to leave a lasting legacy from Glasgow 2014, especially given the unique opportunities presented following the 2012 London Olympics. This manifesto proposes improved statutory protection to ensure Scotland can support and continue to develop it’s people and places to deliver increased participation and improved performance. Sport must not be ignored. It’s place in Scottish culture and it’s potential for improved Scottish health is too important.
This manifesto encourages all political parties and the future Scottish Government to give Scotland a Sporting Chance.”
