GREAT BRITAIN WOMEN TRAIN TOGETHER FOR FIRST TIME AND GREAT BRITAIN MEN TAKE ON SPORTS COMPASS FROM HOLLAND IN LOUGHBOROUGH THIS WEEKEND
In a weekend of Sitting Volleyball at Loughborough University the Great Britain Men will play 4 matches against a Dutch representative side and the Great Britain Women will train together for the first time.
In the main sports hall at Loughborough University, the Great Britain Men have their first matches since returning from the Europeans Championships against the Dutch representative side, Sports Compass. They will be play 4 matches throughout the weekend which will provide a number of the new players to the programme their first taste of Sitting Volleyball Competition.
Head Coach, Ian Legrand, commented on these matches that: “The squad have trained hard since the successes of the Europeans but we are still well aware that there is a long way to go. We are looking at these matches to provide the next step in continual progress towards 2012, but also give our new recruits their first experience of match play.”
At the same time, in the same hall, the first Great Britain Women’s specific training day will take place. The group are coming together for a day of training that will be coordinated by Tom Middleton who will be supported by the Bronze Medal winning Head Coach from Holland in Beijing, John Bestebroer.
With the Volleyball England Sitting Volleyball Regional Centres starting to become established, some excellent talent identification work in Wales ongoing and steering group links beginning to emerge in Scotland, this looks to be the first of hopefully an exciting next 3 years for the group.
Despite having 13 players attend this first session the search continues for more female players, if you personally or you know someone that may be interested please contact Matt Rogers and or the SVA office
