The SVA is delighted to announce that Simon Loftus has been appointed as Head Coach for the Senior Men’s National Team Programme.
Simon will be remembered for his significant contribution as a player with the Scotland Senior Men’s Team over a number of years and he has been able to take this experience into his more recent roles as a coach.
His real commitment to coaching began in 2003 when he fulfilled the role of Assistant Coach at Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, USA. The following year Simon returned home to Scotland to become Women’s Head Coach at Glasgow Mets before moving on in 2007 to Leeds Met University as full-time Head Coach, the only full-time ‘club coach’ position in England.
Outside of his club duties Simon was also Head Coach to the Scotland Young Senior Women’s Programme from 2007-2009 and was successful in seeing a number of his players graduate to the full Senior squad. Having qualified as an SVA Club Coach he continues to broaden his understanding and experience and has been involved as an Assistant Coach with the GB Development Squad, attended the Volleyball Championships at the Beijing Olympics and recently achieved his FIVB Level 2 Coaching qualification.
Simon’s main task for this season will be to prepare the squad for the qualification round of the European ‘C’ Championships which are due to be staged in May next year.
On behalf of everyone involved with Scottish Volleyball we wish Simon every success in his new and exciting role.
