Early on Sunday morning 36 junior players ranging from those starting their first JNL season to some just back from the UK School Games in Cardiff descended on The Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr for this season’s Junior National League Referees Course.
Throughout the day the players were guided in small groups through the ins and outs of refereeing in the JNL and prepared for the season ahead. Tough questions on rotations and recent rule changes kept the tutors on their toes while the players got their head round not just refereeing but linejudging and scoring.
Plenty of practice and the chance to show why they are not just the next generation of officials but are also amongst the best junior players in the country followed and the day simply got better and better.
As usual the course wouldn’t have been the success it was had it not been for the input of the tutors who included Michael McConville and Sandy Steel and I know the players benefited greatly from the breadth of experience available to them.
Well done once again to all involved and roll on the start of the season…
