Mearns Castle High 2009
On the 10th, 11th and 12th of August, 63 pupils from the upcoming 1st years at Mearns Castle, attended a 3-day volleyball camp at the High School. Teachers Colin Giles and Gillian Strang along with PE teacher and International volleyball player, Stuart Edgar, led the camp with the help of assistants Callum Bryson, Helena Brown and Fiona Martin – senior volleyball players at the school.
Youngsters enjoyed learning the sport, most for the first time, during the first 2 days of the camp. They also enjoyed getting to know their peers before the school term started by working with a variety of different people throughout the camp.
On the 3rd day of camp, youngsters were given t-shirts and all took part in a 2 v 2 tournament. Morning games allowed pupils to fight for the top spot and to play in the Gold Group for the afternoon. Silver and Bronze Groups were also made competitive in the afternoon with all teams playing for medals.
After hours of hard work and enjoyment, the camp closed with a presentation ceremony for the winners of each of the groups. The Gold Group winners, boys and girls, can be proud to see their names on the shields held within the trophy cabinets in the school.
Well done to all participants and thanks to all the help that allowed the camp to run smoothly.
