British Volleyball winds it’s way north of the border this weekend to put on a spectacular show for the Scottish public. As part of their European League campaign, the GB Women and GB Men will be playing some top class volleyball in Edinburgh this weekend!
The Women take on Romania – whom they visited last week. Despite going down to 3-0 losses in both games, the women demonstrated a powerful and controlled game, which kept them close in each set. This weekend we will see some familiar faces take to the court in the British red, white and blue. Lynne Beattie, Paula Scott, Jen Thom and Joanne Morgan will be in the squad, along with head coach, Scot Audrey Copper, which hopes to reverse last week’s results against a strong Romanian side.
The Men will face Croatia, whom they haven’t yet played in this year’s European League. Last week, the GB Men put on a fantastic display of Volleyball against one of the favourites – Spain. They nearly caused an upset in both matches, taking the Spanish side right to the wire in each set. Eventually they lost 3-0 and 3-1 but were able to hold their heads high with such a fantastic display of volleyball. This weekend, more familiar faces will be in the men’s squad – Andrew Benson, Mark McGivern and Chris Lamont.
We want as many people as we can to get to Meadowbank Sports Centre on Saturday 13th June and Sunday 14th June. Even if you can only manage one game – Saturday’s matches are getting televised live in Europe and we want to show them the support from Scotland!
Bring flags, bring hooters, bring drums and help support the GB Squads in these crucial European League matches. Let’s raise the roof in Meadowbank and really show them what Scottish Volleyball can do!
Doors Open at 2:00pm each day.
Make Britain Proud!!!
