PARK VOLLEYBALL RETURNS TO PERTH”
This weekend sees Park Volleyball return to Perth in the shape of the Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament. It is 25 years since the first tournament took place and this year sees teams travelling to Perth from the USA, Germany, Netherlands and Poland as well as from all around the U.K. A total of 27 teams from Fife and Tayside will also be competing over the weekend.
Over one hundred teams will fill the thirty five outdoor courts on Perth’s North Inch this weekend. Indoors the Division of Honour teams will compete at Bell’s Sports Centre although numbers for this section are down on previous years due to the men’s national team playing on the continent this weekend which sees a reduction in men’s teams playing indoors.
Specially designed welded metal trophies by a local artisan will be presented to the winning teams on Sunday afternoon by Perth provost John Hulbert following the indoor finals on the centre court at Bell’s Sports Centre.
As usual the outdoor competition focused mainly on fun with around half of the hundred teams competing in the mixed divisions. There will be the traditional welcome Ceilidh following the Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Volleyball Association on Friday evening with the Players’ Disco using up what energy is left on the Saturday evening.
The two tier competition on Sunday sees everyone playing meaningful games with sections having been divided into two after Saturday’s results, the top half playing for the divisional championship and the bottom half playing in the consolation competition.
Whether you are there to play or there to watch it will be a festival atmosphere in Perth celebrating 25 years of the Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament.
