Congratulations to Thomas Dowens who was awarded ‘Coach of the Year’ at Glasgow’s Sport Personality of the Year Awards. Thomas’s dedication, knowledge and enthusiasm in Volleyball for over 30 years was rewarded at a spectacular black tie event, hosted by Glasgow City Council at Glasgow’s Grand Kelvingrove Art Galleries on Friday 21st November
Thomas has been instrumental to the development of Volleyball both in Glasgow and at National level. His role as the Director of Coaching for the SVA and former Head Coach of the Scottish Men’s National Team programme after 17 years service, was acknowledge and rewarded through the presentation of this memorable award.
SVA President Colin McGinlay said “this is a tremendous achievement for both Scottish Volleyball and Thomas. Thomas has worked hard to develop our sport and in particular coaching of Volleyball in Glasgow, therefore to be honoured in this way from Glasgow City must be very special for him”
Gillian McGuire, Target Sport Officer Glasgow, who attended the award ceremony on behalf of the SVA said “this is an incredible achievement for Thomas in return for dedicating his life to volleyball.”
